Summer in the City

London is having a heat wave – where could you go to cool off and enjoy the most of what London has on offer?
To cool down why not take a dip in the Serpentine in Hyde Park. For £4 you can float along enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the largest park of London. If you are a bit more adventurous you can try swimming at Hampstead Heath in the Ladies’ Pond, the Men’s Pond, the Mixed Pond or in the Parliament Hill Lido. The Ladies’ and Men’s Ponds are unique in the United Kingdom in being the only life-guarded open-water swimming facilities open to the public every day of the year. The Lido is a 60 x 27 metre uncovered, unheated swimming pool at Parliament Hill. For more information please click here.
Open air cinema
Still planning to enjoy some culture but still in need of a cooling break? Head down to Somerset House to cool off between the 55 fountains which ‘dance’ in the courtyard. To make the most of the warm summer evenings you can watch open air cinema throughout the city including
Somerset house. For more information what is going on this summer at Somerset house click here.
Open air theatre
Interested to enjoying more culture in the open air? There are operas in Holland Park and an open air theatre in Regent Park throughout the summer. For a list of operas please click here and for an overview of the open air theatre please click here.
Biking and kayaking
Ways to enjoy the warm weather is by renting Boris bikes (Barclays bike you can find throughout zone 1 and most of zone 2’s in London). You can use them for a spin around Hyde Park and if you are more adventurous you can always cycle through the City. More interested to be active on the water? You can rent a kayak to meander along the Thames at several places in London. For more information you can check out their website here.
To enjoy an outdoor terrace with a view there are many opportunities throughout London – too many to list here. One of the most spectacular views is the Roof Gardens located in High Street Kensington. You have a beautiful view over London while at the same time it feels like you are in a park enjoying the green of London. For more information and reservations click here.If you like to explore more rooftop bars Timeout London has recently published a review on their website.
