Get ready for Christmas 2012 in London

October is nearly over and Christmas is almost here with the capital already awash with Christmas events. On the 5th of November the Christmas lights will be switched on by Robbie Williams in Oxford Street. There are Christmas markets all over London, ice rinks appearing and you can listen to Christmas carols in churches and at certain outside venues in London.
Here is a flavour of the Christmas fairs and Christmas carol concerts you can chose from sorted by date.
The Spirit of Christmas Fair at the Olympia Exhibition Centre
Lots of exhibitors will be present at this fair; a good opportunity to secure your Christmas presents early. Standard ticket price is £17.50 when booked in advance via their website.
30th of October – 4th of November
Country Living Magazine Christmas Fair
Here you will find a taste of the traditional English Christmas presents along with handmade toys, decorations and, not to be missed, plenty of seasonal food. Standard ticket price is £13 when booked in advance via their website.
7-11th of November
Italian Christmas Bazaar
Fancy something different? This bazaar offers the diversity and uniqueness of the Italian regions. The 13th annual edition of this traditional event is organised by the Italian Cultural Association Il Circolo and all profits will support charity-sponsored projects. 12th-13th of November
The Junior League of London’s Boutique de Noel
This is another Christmas fair where all proceeds will benefit a good cause; the Junior League of London and their work which involves women promoting voluntary service in the community. Over 100 speciality vendors will be exhibiting gifts varying from toys to antiques and stationary on their 33rd Annual Boutique de Noel. Tickets for the Gala Shopping Evening of 14 November are £35 which includes a cocktail and canapés. There is also an auction. Tickets for 15 November only are £7 and entry for children is free. 14th-15th of November
Southbank Centre Christmas Market
This German-style Christmas market is an annual event and is made up of 600 wooden chalets stretching along the Southbank Centre. Apart from buying your jewellery, toys and ceramics you are can also enjoy a glass of warm Gluhwein; a German mulled wine to keep you warm. There is no entry fee.
Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park
This yearly event offers more than just a Christmas market. You will find rides for all ages, a Christmas circus and the UK’s largest ice rink. Just the thing for a family outing and the access to the park is free. See for more information the website.
23rd November-6th January
Made in Clerkenwell
This might be ideal if you want to avoid the high street this Christmas and opt for something different. You can pick up jewelry, fashion, interior products, ceramics, accessories and traditional crafts by 100+ selected UK designers. Ticket price is £3 and one ticket allows unlimited access over four days, including Thursday’s launch event and Friday’s late night shopping. See for more information and exhibitors their website.
The British Red Cross Christmas Fair
This Christmas fair offers lots of presents for everyone while helping another important good cause. The preview night on Wednesday 28 November will be opened by the guest speaker Gloria Hunniford. Tickets for the preview evening cost £20 and include wine and canapés. On the 29th of November tickets are £4 in advance or £5 at the door. See their website for how to order the tickets in advance.
A Taste of Christmas

Covent Garden Christmas Carols
You can enjoy the choirs perform in the piazza of Covent Garden’s Market Building every Saturday from mid-November until Christmas.
Carols in Trafalgar Square
From the 5th until the 22nd of December there are evening carols sung by various groups in the square in front of a large Norwegian Christmas tree in the middle of the square. The tree lighting ceremony will be on the 6th of December. For more information please check their website.
